Dr Graham Giles MBE

Dr Giles has been a member of the Labour Party for over twenty five years and has
participated in and contributed to Fabian Society national and local debates. During the past 25
years he befriended and supported East European dissidents some of whom who became politicians in
the new democracies.
Dr Giles actively supported prisoners of conscience and campaigned against abuses
of human rights. He became a Member of Honour in the 'Romanian Former Political Prisoners
Association' and since 1990 having established a social development Charity 'Europe to
Europe' his team serves the most vulnerable in Central Eastern Europe, especially disabled
children, women prisoners and drug users. In 2003 Dr Giles received an MBE for this activity.
Through international consultancies he advises the World Bank, United Nations, other Agencies
and NGOs on social development issues related to child protection, youth crime and illicit drug
use.
Graham completed his Doctorate on Juvenile Justice and he is also an Associate Professor at
Bucharest University, in Sociology and Law Faculties. He also enjoys public speaking, lay-preaching,
stage and broadcast drama, and political debates. He is a frequent speaker in seminars, conferences and
universities. Graham's Charity and Consultancy work involves advocacy for disabled youth, juvenile offenders,
and victims of abuse. This includes individual counseling, conflict resolution, opening new channels for
mediation and lobbying for changes in public policy. Graham has written over 20 publications, including
articles and several books that have been published in different languages. Cambridge Biographical Centre
listed him as Educator of the Year 2006. Who's Who in the World 2006/07 published his biography as a Social
Science educator. He is a Trustee with an innovative social enterprise group, and is supporting economic
regeneration in one of the most socially depressed areas in the South East.
Running an international charity requires that Graham sustains a wide range of relationships,
with beneficiaries, volunteers, staff, board members, donors, and other NGOs. This involves a wide range of
responsibilities and leadership values, which demand self-confidence, adaptability, cultural sensitivity and
perseverance. The Southampton based Charity which Graham leads, seeks to mobilize social responsibility amongst
and between the socially diverse neighborhoods of transitional Europe.
Graham is committed to Gosport and to working to solve the problems within Gosport.
He will work for better and appropriate health care, higher education standards and to improve the
transport system and infrastructure, he will also address the problems of anti social behavior within
Gosport. Graham's professional history and experience gives him more than enough experience to address
