About Gosport

Gosport is situated on the south coast of England. The Gosport peninsula, which is part of the coastal plain of
south-east Hampshire, is formed by a series of gently curving beaches and gravel forelands to the south, and by the
Portsmouth Harbour shoreline with its indented tidal creeks to the east.
Gosport has a long historical background with the Royal Navy and was also the birth-place of
the Royal Air Force which originated from the Royal Naval Air Service at Grange Airfield and HMS Daedalus
at Lee-on-the-Solent. It was at one time a walled military town and has several military buildings of architectural
interest.
The Fareham and Gosport Constituency was split during a boundary change in 1974
to create the current Gosport Constituency which includes the two wards, Hill Head and Stubbington,
which are still in the Fareham Borough.
